Produced to maintain your healthy and beautiful Smile
Greetings from Dana Point Dental:
We are all trying to be more health conscious these days. From buying organic to hitting the gym, we are making wiser choices for our bodies. But did you know that many of the most common diseases affecting Americans like heart disease and cancer can be linked to untreated gum disease?
These studies are often overlooked by the media but have been known to the Dental and Medical profession for years. Most recent statistics find 75% of Americans over the age of 35 have some form of gum disease. Gum disease is caused by bacteria found in plaque and tartar that build under the gum line, and like any other infection causes a constant state of inflammation as our bodies fight this attack.
This bacteria runs through our blood stream causing inflammation of the blood vessels and tiny clots to form, making us more susceptible to heart attack and stroke. Other illnesses such as Prostate cancer, diabetes, and premature birth have also been linked to this inflammation. Unfortunately, gum disease cannot be treated by simply brushing or flossing more often.
Tartar is a hard deposit caused by plaque that calcifies on our teeth and can only be removed by your Dentist or Hygienist .We cannot have healthy bodies without healthy mouths.
So the next time you are downing your Vitamin Water on the way to Yoga class, ask yourself when was the last time you saw your hygienist?
